My say:
Language is a tool in communication. We cannot understand each other if we do not have a standard in spoken language. We all need to have a globally recognized language and that would be English. I believe that love is the universal language but English should also be considered as such. In the essay written, I would elaborate why we need to learn English and at the same time expound why it should be a prerequisite to winning the title as Miss Universe.
English is being used by many countries around the globe whether it be an industrialized, third world and powerful countries. It is complex in structure but its complexity will reward you for good if you learn it by heart. The language is also rich in vocabularies and words which we are privileged of when we speak of it.
I highly appreciate the efforts of those contestants who tried to speak English in the question and answer portion because it is a sign that they were eager to learn the language. For those contenders who use interpreters, they do not deserve to win or even have a place in the top 5 of the competition because it is basically testing how witty and learned the lad is and they should prove that by speaking English. If I would be crowned as Miss Universe, then that would be one of my main advocacy which is to promote and encourage non-English speaking nations to make English as their second language. It is quite tough but it all begins with the crown and title that I have.
We have to prove that we have learned so much while we live. In conclusion, speaking English should be a prerequisite for any globally recognized competitions.
